Background: American College of Cardiology (ACC) guidelines suggest clopidogrel (Plavix) suspension for 5 days before non-emergent cardiac surgery (class IIa, level B)
o Isotretinoin (Accutane ): In most cases people are asked to stop taking Accutane (7) days before surgery
If clotting risk is not low – You may not want to stop thinning your blood for too long
Stop Warfarin 5 days before surgery
However the risks of delaying surgery in femoral neck fracture patients is well documented
Option 1: Decrease or hold dosage, increase frequency of monitoring, and resume at lower dosage once INR is within the therapeutic range
